What I Am Living: Bologna Design Week. You might think that I would grant myself some well-deserved slack and relax after Copenhagen Design Week and Design Matter. I am however proud to announce that will not be happening (yet). Straight after Copenhagen, in fact, another city was awaiting me. And another country with it. I was in fact headed back to Italy for Bologna Design Week, (sadly) for its last two days.
From last Tuesday 25 September to today, Saturday 29, the old but elegant city of Bologna has been hosting design exhibitions, workshops and talks on fashion, design and (design) food! It goes without saying that Bologna Design Week is a concentrated mix of events dedicated to design and the creative industries, that see the magnificent Palazzo Isolani as its cornerstone.
Where to stay for Bologna Design Week
For the past couple of days I’ve been staying at the prestigious Grand Hotel Majestic “gia’ Baglioni”. Situated in the centre of Bologna, this extremely elegant hotel has been witnessing the city’s history for centuries. For long the only 5 star luxury hotel, it is practically a museum of local history and art. The current interiors were in fact re-built back in the 18th century, but the amazing frescoed halls were painted by renowned local artists from the 17th and even 16th century.

Where to eat for Bologna Design Week
While here, I’ve had the chance to try different local dishes – and (as expected) I was left dreaming. On the night of my arrival, I payed a visit to the Grand Hotel Majestic “gia’ Baglioni”‘s restaurant, I Carracci. An “exclusive destination of ‘taste'”, I Carracci was the perfect first-night-spot to discover traditional recipes of the local cuisine. It was amazing to be able enjoy the best tortellini in brodo that I will probably have had in my life, while admiring some Italian masterpieces.
Another spot there was just no way I would miss while staying in Bologna was the Emporio Armani Restaurant, in the historic and luxurious Galleria Cavour, where I got to experience a tasting of the amazing local cheese selection. A source of pride for the region.
My last culinary stop was at the renowned restaurant Fourghetti, “the place where time is yours, with good food, good wine, discourse and laughter”. And where the food and the wine was indeed amazing. I reccoment the Ricotta mousse with pears with wine, as it was an incredible combination of flavours.
Where to shop for Bologna Design Week
One necessary stop for shopping during Bologna Design Week is no other than L’Inde le Palais. Here I enjoyed myself browsing through the latest and most eccentric arrivals of AW18 from fashion brands as the likes of Gucci, Givenchy, Alexander McQueen and even Versace. A whole other experience was on the other hand Folli Follie, with whole other brands, but just as satisfying for my love for luxury fashion brands.
